RAFAH, Egypt—Hundreds of Palestinians crossed into Egypt on Saturday after Cairo opened its border with the Gaza Strip for the first time in four years, a move that signals a more pro-Palestinian policy by Egypt's post-revolutionary government.
An Egyptian security official at the border said more than 300 people had already crossed into Egypt by noon on Saturday, three hours after the border opened. The official said he expected as many as 500 people to cross before the 5 p.m. border closing—about twice the number that crossed each day under previous, more restrictive conditions, he said.
