Truck Driver Incident Sparks Unrest in Inner Mongolia

BEIJING –Police sealed off parts of two county seats in China's Inner Mongolia for a second day Saturday in what residents described as a kind of martial law after protests triggered by the death of a Mongolian herder run over by a Chinese truck driver.

The demonstrations this past week in two counties and a nearby city are rare for Inner Mongolia, unlike China's other troubled border regions of Tibet and Xinjiang which have erupted in violent protests in recent years.

Mongolia to Sign Currency Swap Deal With China

BEIJING—The central bank of Mongolia said it will sign a currency swap agreement with the People's Bank of China, paving the way for more yuan-based trade settlements.

Mongolbank didn't disclose the amount or duration of the contract but said the deal would help ensure the stability of its local currency, according to a statement on its website dated May 3.
